Out of the 140s and into the 170s on the 3-month study plan

Student story

  • Starting score: High 140s
  • Where she is now: 170s, and still studying
  • Program: The LSAT Unplugged 3-month study plan, after the free cheat sheet
  • Study time: A full summer

In her words

I studied so much over the summer. But I think a lot of it was gaining confidence as I studied that much.

I downloaded the free cheat sheet and thought that was cool. Then I bought the 3-month study plan.

You were constantly sending emails and making them kind of funny. It took the weight off the LSAT pressure.

What actually moved her score

I've been coaching the LSAT since 2005, and this is the shortest interview on the site, 76 seconds. It's here because a 20-plus point jump on a self-study plan is rare, and she names the 2 things that did it.

Volume, and the confidence that came with it. She put in a full summer and says the score followed the hours.

A schedule she'd actually follow. The 3-month plan told her what to do each day, and the emails kept her on it. Nobody improves 20 points on a plan they abandon in week 2.

Individual results vary. Score increases depend on starting point, study time, and effort.

Steve: You've improved quite a bit, and you're still studying. What do you attribute your success to so far? High 140s to the 170s is a huge increase that a lot of people would kill for.

Student: I studied so much over the summer. But I think a lot of it was gaining confidence as I studied that much.

Student: I stumbled across your blog online. I was googling a ton of LSAT stuff and came across it. I downloaded the free cheat sheet and thought that was cool, I liked it a lot. Then I bought one of your study plans, the 3-month study plan. I liked what I was seeing, and I liked how interactive you were, how you were constantly sending emails and making them kind of funny. It took the weight off the LSAT pressure. So I decided to try it.
